Cool Watch Alert!

Crow watches!

Another goody! I wasn’t shopping for watches today, but these happen to pop up during my research for my posts (don’t ask me how). These are Crow Watches. I will have to provide the link later because I’m not sure these are available anymore. I’d hate to give the link to something that wasn’t there, BUT at least I was able to show you how creative Crow Watches can get! These watches even have a L.E.D bar at the side that lights up when you touch it. The style is chunky and the colors are brilliant. I could see guys loving this watch, but hey the ladies should love them just as much. If it came in pink I’d probably buy one today! But alas, if it’s not one thing it’s the other.

Anyway, enjoy and leave comments below!

Quirky Laptop Sleeves!

Cool Laptop Covers!

No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you, this is it. I was searching the internet for a new laptop cover today and stumbled upon these eccentric tid bits! These Laptop Sleeves are available at  Zero Gravity head over to the site by clicking the link. There are a lot more sleeves to choose from. I think I’ll buy one too! They’re so much fun. The lunch plate one is my favorite right now. The phone is cute too. Knowing me, I’ll probably end up buying more than one. The only thing I wish these sleeves had is hand loops. The sleeve I’m using right now has them, and it so very convenient. I guess I can just as easily sew them on, but then I don’t wanna risk damaging the cool 3-D effect of the design. Whoops, I’m rambling ;)

Check them out, and let me know what you think by commenting below!

Unicorn Hair!

This spring, it’s all about the Unicorn Hair. Kelly Osborne has been spotted rockin this hot hair trend. While researching looks for my beauty section, I saw this and thought hmm, this should be fun. The Unicorn hair look is very ethereal and delicate. It reminds me of pixies in a mythical Forrest. Actually, I think that’s what they were going for. I don’t know about dying your hair permanently for this look, it seems like that would be damaging. I’m sure there are less drastic alternative to hair color. Either way, this look calls for you to actually strip the real color from your hair. I can’t see the color taking any other way. As you can tell by my Pinterest to your right, I’m really diggin’ the exotic color hair trend right now. I’ll find a way to try this trend, but one thing’s for sure, it’s gonna be temporary. No bleaching here. I wonder if Henna comes in blue-ish grey. I guess we’ll have to see :) I will definitely keep you posted on the outcome. I just hope I end up looking “trendy” and not like a walking art project.

Tell me what you think of this Hair trend. Cute or No? Comment below

What Models Need to Walk in Fashion Week!

Models are essential in the fashion world.  There are over 80 key modeling agencies in all the top fashion cities. During Fashion Week, designers are given at least 2 or 3 thousand models to choose from for one show! What should a model have in order to get chosen? Aspiring models, listen up! Here is what you need to make it to fashion week. First is…

1.  A Good Agency or Manager

In case you thought you’d be able to walk through the doors of Dior headquarters and announce that you’re the next best thing, think again! You must be highly represented. As a model, you should always shoot for the best agencies trending now. The reality is that only high status fashion houses share models, and they’re usually the cream of the crop. You can easily be in that selection, but your agency has to be well known and socially connected.

2. That “IT” Factor

Whether you’re a model, or a teacher, everyone has that thing about them that makes them stand out. If you’re competing in an agency with hundreds or even thousands of models, you must find that thing about YOU that’s truly unique. Is it your voice, accent, gap in your front teeth, exotic looks, big Nose? Whatever “IT” is own it! Here’s a hint: Anything you were made fun of in grade school for in terms of looks, a quirky personality, or even confidence could be your “IT” factor.

3. Great Physique

Models in great physical shape are definitely a must. Just because you’re thin doesn’t mean you’re good to go. Casting agents do want to see some tone in your muscles. They also consider skin condition as a deciding factor. Unless the designer calls for it, scars can make or break your chances. Models are aesthetic workers, so your body and even personality are seen as products for merchandise exchange. The Fashion houses are all about showcasing their work in the best way possible. That’s their main concern.

4. A Good Word Through the Grapevine!

Being socially popular on facebook or twitter can make an enormous difference in your desirability. Find creative ways to get noticed. Get a YouTube account and make videos like “Day in the life of a model” or something clever like that. There is sure to be a broad audience interested in you for one reason or another. The power of the people is remarkable, and sometimes can override all the things mentioned before. The industry relies on word of mouth or references, so make yourself the talk of the town. Note: your reputation can make or break you too, be sure your conduct on social media puts you in a good light.

These four tips are sure to give you a strong chance to walk the runway for fashion week. No matter what, a positive attitude and persistence will conquer all. You might get tons of NOs but you only need ONE YES.

So Good Luck :) You’ll make it!

Do Fashion Designers Deserve Copyright Protection?

In today’s fast pace fashion industry, high-end designers are starting to question the longevity and safety of their brand. The Council of Fashion Designers of America [CFDA] believe designers need more copyright protection due to the blatant ripping off of their brands in quick fashion stores such as Forever21, H&M, and Zara. That’s why they are pushing for the Design Piracy Prohibition Act (hr2196), which would create a special, limited three-year copyright in fashion designs, with penalties of $250,000 or $5 per copy for violations. At the same time, are stricter copyright laws in fashion hypocritical? Julian Sanchez, contributing editor for Reason.com believes that copyright protection is contradictory in fashion since the majority of designs produced are “paying homage” or “inspired” by other peoples work”. Sanchez states that giving copyright protection to fashion designers would end the copying that drives trends and the demand for new styles. That’s a point, but here’s my take on this issue.

Recently, Hermès International gave props to French police for breaking up an international crime ring that was manufacturing counterfeit versions of their bags. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the operation concluded after one year of investigations based on complaints and clues of abnormal behavior identified by their in house monitoring system. It’s said that the bags were sold through parallel distribution networks in Europe, U.S, and Asia. Knock-off crime rings have been a thorn in the high-end retailer’s side for a while now. There are already laws in place for copyrighting material, but are they working? Think about this; eighty percent of products sold under the Hermès name online are knock-offs! If I were a designer, I would feel a way if people where blatantly copying my products, and maybe even risking my brands exclusivity by making it accessible to everyone. High-end retailers rely on their exclusivity. With certain knock-offs, you can’t tell their fake by just looking at them. If everyone has access to a real Hermes bag, then ultimately it won’t be special anymore and therefore lose its appeal.

For some cases I do agree with Julian Sanchez. A while back when Gwen Stefani sued Forever21 for allegedly copying her brands logo, it didn’t fly. Forever21 argued that Gwen’s line is a knock-off in itself by imitating Harajuku style in Tokyo Japan. It’s a whole pot calling the kettle black situation. Let’s face it people, trends recycle. Honestly, did anyone think for a minute color blocking was new? The industry started that in the 60’s. The only people who have a problem with quick-fashion or knock-off merchandise are the designers affected by it. Since people are cutting back due to the slow economy, they’ll settle for anything just as good. Quick fashion retail stores are thriving because of this. I for one appreciate quality in design, so nothing less than the real thing will do. Do you care if your fashion is a knock-off, or does quality rule your fashion world?

Sound off below and tell me what you think ;)
