Just like the title says…IT’S NORDIC TIME!!! But with winter, it always is. I know in a previous article I said I’d do a post Nordic print, so here we are! The clothes above are some great examples of Nordic wear. Who doesn’t own a Nordic print scarf, gloves, or hat? It’s a must have! The red color with that print always has that youthful flare, with a hint of sophistication. The cinnamon color is mature and November-ish. It reminds me of the fall leaves with snowflakes throughout. The fur is an unexpected luxurious touch. It definitely works.  When styling Nordic Print, texture is the key.

Deep rich red accessories are currently the go to “pop” color of the season. Red lips are always trending. Personally I like orange. Red pumps, clutches, bags, and accessories that are sparkling with red notes are also going to be high in demand for winter. It’s something so erotic about the whitest white color and sultry red. I would love a red red scarf. That would pick up any outfit. I’m not that hyped over the whole layering and wearing a coat everywhere I go thing. The colors though…they do speak to me. I’m ready for winter this year… I honestly feel that I have more options in style.

I really love the outfit above. Those pants in that lightweight leather is just awesomely versatile. They might be pleather, but I could care less; they’re easy to wear and comfy. Whats interesting though it the fact that this article isn’t about those pants. No dearys, it’s about the Ash washed denim button down blouse the model is wearing. That shade is difficult to come by, so if you happen to have one, style it like this; Wear thick, metallic, studded sophisticated faux bangles with a coordinating bag and some sleek footwear. Red is a great shade for the outfit above, but honestly I wouldn’t immediately go for the large bag. Don’t get me wrong, I’d wear a hobo bag for a casual look, but for going out, I’d have to go with a bright color clutch. Heels are my go to shoe, but again, if you’re casual, wear chucks or flats. Lets look at the balance of the outfit above;

Key Item = Bangles

Basic Item = Pants

Master Item = The Denim Blouse

And then the 4th item is the bag which is technically a Key Item. Your main ensemble should consist of 1 to 3 clothing items, which must either be a Key, Master, or Basic piece, after that you can add another item from any category. I have read many quality fashion related content. While studying abroad, I’ve noticed a couple of differences in fashion culture compared to the U.S. The one place I haven’t gone YET is Japan. Japan is the most diverse and experimental when it comes to fashion. American fashion is known for “doing it’s own thing” or just making it our own when it comes to style and design. But when I look at Japans fashion scene, I often wonder if THEY should have gotten that reputation. Aside from the fact that Japan has a multitude of fashion subcultures,  they also kill it when it comes to their magazines. CanCam, ViVi, IF, WITH, FUDGE; Japanese Fashion magazines are all inspiring. The ones geared towards the younger generations maybe teens to late 20’s are extremely…DOPE! The styling is imaginative and daring. And their magazines are just so full and heavy with pure fashion…I LOVE IT! I’d so love to guess edit for CanCam or ViVi one day. The only issue I have is that when I buy Japanese magazines back to back, the styling can seem redundant. You start to see the same styling and even products, That’s why I only purchase one or two for the season. Also, the Japanese fashion mags are the most expensive ones I own ($20 an issue). According to one of my friends who live in Japan, there are many many more that are not easily accessible. That’s why I must plan a trip to Japan. It’s a must! Until then, I’ll admire them from a far :).

Well…

The conflicting opinions on the subject of digital vs. print has already hit the fashion industry. WILL DIGITAL MAGAZINES REPLACE PRINT MAGAZINES? hmmm? I use to think that I was one of those fuddy duddy stick in the mud people that refused to get with the times (since I LOVE print mags). But honestly, I have to admit that I’m becoming more in love with the digital versions of my favorite magazines. The convenience of having the latest issue available anywhere I go is just so comforting. If I’m working around the computer; in just one click, my magazine is there. If I’m out and about and need a reference for the latest fashion trends; I have my Elle magazine (which is my favorite) on my phone and ready to go! And lets not forget the extras; extended photo-shoots and even extra editorials are available exclusively for some digital prints. I get a lot more from digital magazines… so why do I still love print magazines?

Could it be due to my era? My generation didn’t grow up with i-phones or Google play shopping. Maybe a part of me is still nostalgic. I still remember my first magazine. It was a Teen Magazine from like the early 1990’s. I even remember what trends were in; bright colored tops with khaki skirts. I remember flipping through the pages and smelling the herbal essence shampoo samples. Holding the actual magazine, and flipping through the pages was my favorite past time. I loved the feeling the PRINT magazines gave me. Something about the word feel; to experience something. Paper magazines were part of my first fashion experience, so I can’t just throw it away forever…or replace it. I’m just staying true to my roots, which is why the paper magazine stands are still surviving today. Too many people refuse to deny their roots. People still want to FEEL something real. I’ve seen how technology has helped us but hindered us at the same time. You see friends having dinner and not speak a word to one another, just steady focusing on their phones. Then you find that you can’t go a day without checking the status of some kind of social media platform. Its like technology is slowly canceling the real HUMAN connection. But that’s only if we let it. I choose not to choose. I want them both. I don’t think Digital will ever completely phase out print… there’s too many fuddy duddys out there. ;)
